Before director Taika Waititi made it big with Thor: Ragnarok, he was known for smaller indie films in his native New Zealand. What he did with those smaller films was far from conventional and it was that off-kilter humor that got him noticed to begin with. That started most likely with the 2014 mockumentary horror comedy film What We Do in the Shadows which dealt with a documentary crew following four vampire roommates who share a flat in the Wellington suburb of Te Aro. Waititi also co-starred as one of the vampire roommates.
An odd story indeed but one that has found multiple fanbases. So much so a spin-off TV series in New Zealand titled Wellington Paranormal came to fruition with a 6-episode first season this year that will be followed by a 13-episode second season next year. And it won’t stop there since FX has already confirmed an American adaptation of the original film will premiere here in Spring 2019.
While original Shadows stars Waititi and Jemaine Clement are involved in a producing capacity alongside accomplished producer Paul Simms the new show, which is also titled What We Do in the Shadows, will follow three roommates living in Staten Island. Kayvan Novak, Harvey Guillen, Matt Berry, and Natasia Demetriou will star in this new version.
Today, two new teasers for the show have been released. The first, titled “Fingers”, you can check out below:
