For Nathan Fillon, to call him a fan-favorite would be understatement. Ever since Firefly got cancelled after one season, he’s been one actor that fans have gotten more of wherever they could. Not only did Fillon get to return for the Firefly film Serenity, but he would go on to lead the eight season ABC show Castle which abruptly ended after low ratings and his co-star Stana Katic choosing not to renew her contract. While Fillon chose to entertain fans with the an Uncharted short film recently, TV just seems to be where he gets his audience.
Fans were no doubt happy when they heard that he would be returning to ABC to star in the cop dramedy series The Rookie which got an initial thirteen episode order for it’s first season. Turns out that Fillon’s fanbase has made sure he’ll get plenty of work as today it was announced the show has received an additional seven episode order which now make it’s freshman season a full season of twenty episodes.
This no doubt has to do with The Rookie being a breakout hit for ABC and, in addition, improving the network’s ratings in it’s timeslot which is up 84% from last fall. The Live+7 ratings for the premiere of the show drew an average audience of 9.7 million viewers and a 1.8 rating. Time will tell how long Fillon will be on television this time, but judging by this announcement it will be for a little bit. Stay tuned!
