A few days it was confirmed that Birds of Prey, one of the next DCEU films, would begin production in January (See the specifics here). However, nothing had been confirmed beyond Cathy Yan directing and Margot Robbie reprising her breakout role of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. In addition, the story would deal with Harley Quinn teaming up Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save the life of a little girl named Cassandra Cain from an evil crime lord.
Jared Leto is not expected to reprise his Suicide Squad role of the Joker as the launching point of the story is Quinn ends her partnership with him. Not to mention actor Joaquin Phoenix is currently doing a version of the character for a stand-alone origin story. That film, simply titled Joker, is expected to be outside the main continuity of the DCEU (See the new set video for that film here).
Getting back to Birds of Prey, it was announced today the film officially has a release date set for February 7, 2020. This means that within the next couple months we most likely will be hearing about casting of the other main leads. However, it’s being claimed that the film’s title will not actually be Birds of Prey given the inclusion of Quinn as a main character. So that for now is just a working title. Stay tuned!
