Cate Shortland to Direct Marvel’s Black Widow Solo Film

Reports say that for the solo Black Widow movie, Marvel meet with over seventy potential directors for the film. After half a year of searching, it was announced today that Marvel has selected Cate Shortland to helm the film. This will make her the first solo female director for a Marvel film. Shortland was actually pushed by Black Widow star herself Scarlett Johansson who was a fan of Shortland’s previous work. Shortland previously directed the acclaimed 2004 film Somersault, the 2012 film Lore, and last year’s Berlin Syndrome. Keep in mind…Somersault co-starred Sam Worthington. The woman has made a critically acclaimed film with Sam Worthington for crying out loud!

We’re not worthy!

The most recent draft of Black Widow has been written by Jac Schaeffer with the story expected to take place before the first Avengers but not necessarily in the 1990’s as was previously rumored. No release date has been announced yet. Stay tuned!
