Christopher McQuarrie In Talks to Return to Direct Next “Mission: Impossible”

Sometime during the promotion of “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”, director Christopher McQuarrie joked about how he felt bad for whoever had to direct “Mission: Impossible 6”. He didn’t seem to think it was going to be him. Dead again, Sam Mendes said a similar thing during promotion for “Skyfall” before he went on to direct “Spectre”. In an act of history repeating itself, it seems McQuarrie is in early talks to return for the sixth “Mission: Impossible” as director.

Tom: “I mean…did anyone expect ‘Rogue Nation’ to be this good? No! I mean even this poster for the movie looks better than most and it’s just my face in smoke!”

It really shouldn’t be that surprising since McQuarrie was a screenwriter for multiple Tom Cruise projects in the past, basically being his longtime collaborator since he  co-wrote “Valkyrie,” “Jack Reacher,” and “Edge Of Tomorrow“.

This was WAY better than “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. This is time travel action at it’s best in my opinion.

In a recent interview with EW, McQuarrie spoke on the coming up with ideas for the sequel, which they plan to start filming in August 2016:

That was the challenge that was put to me immediately after we did it. As soon as we  [completed the airplane stunt in ‘Rogue Nation,’ somebody said, ‘What are you gonna do now?’ I’ve been thinking about it ever since, and I’ve got a secret little list that may or may not happen,” he teased. “We have an idea, and it doesn’t require low Earth orbit. [Laughs] Let’s put it this way: There are bigger stunts without more altitude.

On another note, “Rogue Nation” co-star Rebecca Ferguson is rumored to be returning as well for “M: I 6” as well as McQuarrie talking about “Edge of Tomorrow 2” and “Jack Reacher 2”:

Oh, we talk about it all the time, and it’s a matter of making it official…I mean, Tom and I, we’re just sort of making one big movie together. Whenever we’re making one movie, we’re talking about what the next movie will be. So while we were talking about ‘Edge 2’ and ‘Reacher 3,’ he was ready to go off and do ‘Reacher 2.’ So while we’re talking, something materializes and then we kind of just let things come as they will.

It’s not exactly the most detailed confirmation of what’s the come, but no doubt McQuarrie and Cruise are working strong together. It’s not like the results haven’t been fruitful.

McQuarrie: “Think of it Tom! First, ‘Jack Reacher’. Then, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’. Then, ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’. And then…who knows where?! Well…we know where. sequels for all three of them…but we make them good!” Tom:…go on.
