Color Out of Space Debuts Official Trailer

Most people know of director Richard Stanley from the one movie he didn’t actually get to direct. The 1996 film adaptation of the H.G. Wells’ novel The Island of Doctor Moreau which strayed from his vision (And dealt with the egos of such actors as Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer), led to him being fired half a week after shooting started where he was then replaced by John Frankenheimer.

For Stanley, it was a heartbreaking moment as the adapting the novel had been a passion project of his. It was so bad that he hadn’t directed a film since then, mostly doing short films and writing scripts for other directors to helm. That, however, changed last year when it was announced he would direct an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s 1927 short story The Colour Out of Space (Which he co-wrote the script for with Scarlett Amaris). And, based on critical reception…it’s clear Stanley was wasted as a director back in 1996.

Not only has Color Out of Space gotten critical acclaim, but his unique vision seems to offer a memorable and strange film. Course, the synopsis shows this easily:

The Gardner family has traded city life for the country after they inherit a rural family estate located near Arkham, Massachusetts. Struggling artist patriarch Nathan (Played by Nicolas Cage) tries his hand at gardening yet fails to yield any desired results. That changes one evening when a small meteorite crashes in the yard. The purple-glowing orb soon withers into dust, but not before infecting the local water supply. While the effect on the crops is bountiful, the alien presence soon begins to take an ill effect on the Gardner family.
