People act like audiences just got caught in big budget thrills in the last few years, but Godzilla is a prime example of how that’s just not true. The franchise has been around since the late 1950’s with dozens of movies centered around the city-destroying reptile, marking him in every range on the archetype spectrum. Sometimes he’s the hero of the story, sometimes the villain, and sometimes he just happens to go either way without meaning to. Many times, the point of the story was to comment on the nuclear age and it’s effect on nature, demonstrating a time when one didn’t just destroy buildings on-screen just for the sake of the sight of that destruction.
In any case, today at Comic-Con we got the first full trailer for the next iteration of the character, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Serving as a sequel to the 2014 film and the third film in the MonsterVerse (With 2017’s Kong: Skull Island as the second installment), this film is expected to lead into the Godzilla-King Kong crossover Godzilla vs. Kong that will hit theaters May 22, 2020. But that’s a couple years away. For now, check out the Comic-Con trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters below:
