Fans may be excited to see how Phase 3 ends with Avengers 4 next year, but sadly they might not get an answer to what happens after. At least not for the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Believed to have been set to release in May 2020, with pre-production already underway and filming set for 2019, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been delayed now after the firing of writer/director James Gunn following the reemergence of Gunn’s former Tweets from years previous.
Gunn wasn’t just the director of the GOTG films, he was also essentially the lead man on the cosmic universe angle of the MCU. His departure clearly is set to have larger ramifications until a replacement is found. Recently, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, who modeled Ragnarok after Gunn’s GOTG film style, was said to have taken a meeting with Marvel for a new film. Many suspect this is them discussing with Waititi about taking over GOTG Vol. 3.
In any case, this just is a sad reminder of both the consequences of what we say. And the only victims now are the fans who anxiously waited for Vol. 3. Now, they’ll have to wait much longer. Stay tune!
