My hope is this is just a sign of needing time to properly market it, but it was announced today that the upcoming Hellboy reboot has had it’s release date pushed back. Originally set for January 11, 2019, the film will not hit theaters April 12, 2019. This puts the film near the summer, only a couple weeks before Avengers 4 hits theaters.
With no indication of reshoots or any issues with filming, it’s most likely that the studio behind the reboot feels the movie would be better suited for April than January. Given most superhero films open in the April/May period of the month, it appears to be a smart move. Hopefully soon we will get some footage of the film to get an idea what to expect either way.
Hellboy stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Brian Gleeson, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sophie Okonedo. It is directed by Neil Marshall.
