We got out first look at the new Hellboy reboot way back in September 2017 that showed David Harbour in full make-up (See it here). While the film had a release date move from January 11, 2019 to April 12, 2019, promotion for the film has mostly been through print media. After that first look we got a new poster but it wasn’t until this recent October it hit the internet (See it here), followed by another beautiful drawn poster for the New York Comic-Con (See it here) a few days after that.
We probably are going to get a trailer soon as today we got the first photo from the actual film, courtesy of Empire Magazine, which shows Harbour in motion. This time, his resemblance to Ron Perlman’s version of the character is not there and the character looks more comic bookish. Check it out below:
That more comic bookish look seems to be a way that director Neil Marshall is working to show the difference between his take and the earlier films by Guillermo del Toro. The following quote went along with the new photo:
It was always a case of, “When in doubt, go back to the source material.” Some of the stuff is pretty sick. More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.
That R-rating lends to the more brutal tone the film hopes to have. The result will hopefully be a vicious and entertaining take on the character with all the monster guts you could hope for.
Hellboy co-stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Daniel Dae Kim.
