Gerard Butler hasn’t had the best luck with films…okay he’s had the worst luck with films. Gods of Egypt and Geostorm are two examples of recent bad career moves. That being said, Butler just keeps going and keeps trying to do something different. And this time he has the benefit of co-starring with Gary Oldman. The film in question, Hunter Killer, is based on the 2012 novel Firing Point by authors Don Keith & George Wallace, has a premise that’s a little more grounded and ridiculous than the films Butler has been taking on lately. The synopsis is as follows:
An untested American submarine captain teams with U.S. Navy Seals to rescue the Russian president, who has been kidnapped by a rogue general.
The film also has a release date of October 26th which strangely puts it during award season. Course that could simply be lent to Oldman’s Oscar win from earlier this year for Darkest Hour, but who knows? But also, on a side note, the film will also be one of the final roles of actor Michael Nyqvist who sadly past last year in June. Nyqvist’s most recent international role you might know him from is as the villain Viggo Tarasov in 2014’s John Wick. So, if you’re a fan of his, he will be featured in this film as well. Today, the first trailer for the film has been released which you can check out below:
Hunter Killer co-stars Common. It is directed by Donovan Marsh.
