Matt Smith hasn’t had the best luck since he left the show Doctor Who. That being said, at least he continues to diversify in every genre he can as an actor. Leading to his next project, a biopic on famed and controversial artist Robert Mapplethorpe.
Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, Mapplethorpe began photographing the inhabitants of the Chelsea Hotel and his new circle of friends included artists and musicians, socialites, film stars, and members of the BDS&M underground. The controversial aspect came from how his work displayed eroticism in a way that had never been examined by the public, leading to them being outright banned in certain locales.
The film already premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, but will hit theaters March 1, 2019. With that, the first trailer for the film has landed today. Check it out below:
