Martin Scorcese and Leonardo DiCaprio haven’t worked together since 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Since then DiCaprio finally has his Oscar from the 2015 film The Revenant. Now they are planning to reunite as equal Oscar winners with an adaptation of author David Frann’s best-selling 2017 novel Killers Of The Flower Moon. The adaptation will be handled by Imperative Entertainment while 30WEST will finance.
Based on true events, the story is set in 1920’s Oklahoma, when the Native American Osage Nation were the richest people per capita in the world after oil was discovered under their land. Then…they were murdered, one by one, and the newly created FBI took up the case. In the process, a chilling conspiracy was discovered.
In response to taking up the film, Scorsese released the following statement:
When I read David Grann’s book, I immediately started seeing it – the people, the settings, the action – and I knew that I had to make it into a movie. I’m so excited to be working with Eric Roth and reuniting with Leo DiCaprio to bring this truly unsettling American story to the screen.
Eric Roth will adapt the novel to script while Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff will produce the film. Production will begin in the summer of next year with the result hopefully being another excellent film made by one of the best actor-director collaborations out there. Stay tuned!
