In a lot of ways, the Netflix’s collaboration with Marvel TV is what truly got the streaming service into the original content game. Before they just streamed whatever movies and shows they could license, but once season 1 of Daredevil hit Netflix in 2015, they had arrived. And then came Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. Safe to say, the Netflix/Marvel collaboration has been a massive success.
Despite Disney beginning their own streaming service soon, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb seems determined to want more future seasons for these Marvel shows. At least with Daredevil, or at least that is what Loeb focused on in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, quoting the following:
We find the best showrunners that we can, whether it’s Steve Lightfoot on Punisher or Erik on Daredevil, and we work together with them to craft the best story that we can… Does Marvel have an idea as to what Daredevil 4, 5, or 6 could be? Sure. But ultimately those things will be shifted and talked about by the two other important parties that are involved: the network — Netflix — and our showrunner. So we take it on a season-by-season basis, with a general idea as to where we want to be for all of our characters.
The “Erik” that Loeb refers to is Erik Oleson who is the showrunner on the upcoming third season of Daredevil, set to premiere on Netflix on October 19th. I take Loeb’s statement as a good thing though one regards to the upcoming season. To me it represents a confidence that season 3 will impress audiences and show these Marvel shows still have a lot of worth in them. We’ll find out on October 19th. Stay tuned!
