The concept of “Relationship horror” films are as old as time. Stories about dysfunctional relationships that descends into either slasher or odd-as-possible thematic presentations. It’s always interesting about how these films find a way to take a simple concept and create ludicrous ways to have it lead to blood and death.
That being said, Midsommar, the latest in this unofficial genre of cinema, is intentionally trying to be ludicrous (You saw the title image for this article right?). So if that’s writer/director Ari Aster’s agenda from the get-go, it strangely adds a more welcoming presence as it tries to do the opposite of everything you expect from horror films (Including a film that primarily takes place in the day as opposed to the usual horror trope of night). With that, the full trailer for the film has been released today, following the teaser trailer that was released a couple months ago (See the teaser here). As the new trailer below shows…ludicrous is the main course on the menu:
Midsommar stars Jack Reynor, Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe. It is set to hit theaters August 9th.
