Netflix’s Bird Box Debuts Trailer #1 & First Poster

Not a lot of Americans know who Susanne Bier is…yet. Originally finding success directing in Denmark (Where she is from), Bier briefly did the critically-panned American film Serena (Starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence). The film’s small release date combined her to edit the film (As she had her next film as a priority) led to a critically panned film where she was not given the proper acclaim she deserved.

Aside from that film, she’s seen nothing but success and recently began to make herself known in the states positively with the critically acclaimed 2016 miniseries The Night Manager. Combined with her 2010 film In a Better World, those two projects alone helped her to become the first female director to win a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and a European Film Award. Following The Night Manager she is about to release her next film, courtesy of Netflix who has been willing to fund a vast array of different projects.

Titled Bird Box, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by author Josh Malerman, the film looks like a deft mix of this year’s A Quiet Place and M. Night’s critically panned 2008 film The Happening. A story about a mother taking her kids on a journey in a world where if someone looks at these certain monsters…they take their own lives. Judging by the new trailer today, the film has the potential to be A Quiet Place, especially given the strong cast the film has, but decide for yourself:

Bird Box stars Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Machine Gun Kelly, BD Wong, and John Malkovich. It’s scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 21st. In addition, check out the new poster for the film below:
