It’s been awhile since Eddie Murphy has taken on a mature project but courtesy of Netflix that’s Dolemite Is My Name, a biopic feature about comedian and blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore. Moore was noted for his X-rated stand-up which he infused with rapping and rhythm. On the big screen, he became popular for his martial artist pimp character Dolemite who got a big screen adaptation in 1975 that was such a hit it spawned two official sequels.
Netflix seems ready to give the film a chance at the award season, set to debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (Set to run from Thursday, September 5, 2019 to Sunday, September 15, 2019) ahead of a release in cinemas and then on the streaming service this Fall. Today, the official trailer for the film has been released to start promoting it. Check it out below:
Dolemite Is My Name co-stars Titus Burgess, Keegan-Michael Key, Craig Robinson, Mike Epps, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Snoop Dogg, and Wesley Snipes. It is directed by Craig Brewer.
