Back in March, the show Love, Death & Robots premiered on Netflix. Consisting of 18 science fiction shorts, the show was produced by David Fincher and Tim Miller. In fact, the show is a re-imagining of a long in-development reboot of the 1981 film Heavy Metal that Fincher and Miller were planning. Despite some complaints of focusing too much on gore and titillation (I’m guessing critics never saw the movie Heavy Metal? What did they expect?), the first season was well-received and today Netflix announced the show has been renewed for a second season.
Jennifer Yuh Nelson will join Fincher and Miller as a producer. While her directing work includes the more family-friendly Kung Fu Panda 2, she also has worked on the hit (And more adult) animated Spawn series that was hugely successful on HBO. Hopefully, the second season will continue to please it’s niche audience. Stay tuned!
