For better or for worse, Charles Manson seems to be getting a revised interest in the industry. Not only is he featured as a prominent character in Quentin Tarantino’s new film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but even Hilary Duff recently did a film called The Haunting of Sharon Tate and now the David Fincher-produced show Mindhunters will include a significant role for Charles Manson in it’s upcoming second season.
Chronicling the early days of criminal psychology and criminal profiling in the FBI, the first season was lauded by critics and audiences alike. That season helped to establish the base line for whatever story each following season will choose to do, detailing the research-gathering of a small team at the agency as they interviewed incarcerated serial killers to better understand what compelled them to commit the atrocities they did.
While Manson will be featured, the second season will primarily cover the Atlanta child murders of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s and also features a significant role for Charles Manson. Fincher himself will direct episodes of the new season as he did last season (He directed the first two and last two episodes of season one) along with fellow cinematic directors Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James) and Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress). Unlike the ten-episode first season, season two will consist of nine episodes.
Today, the official teaser for season two has arrived. Check it out below:
Season two of Mindhunters is set to premiere on Netflix on August 16th.
