Writer/director Alfonso Cuarón’s new film Roma is basically Netflix’s hope at contending during the Oscar season. Heck it’s already been selected as the Mexican entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for next year’s Academy Awards. And it’s easy to see why, a semi-biographical take on Cuarón’s upbringing in Mexico City (With the title of the film refering to the “Colonia Roma” district in Mexico City), the film screams Oscar bait. Following the life of a middle class family and its live-in housekeeper in the 1970’s, Cuarón captures a certain time so easily, especially as shown in the film’s new trailer. Check it out below:
Roma stars Yalitza Aparicio, Marina de Tavira, Marco Graf, Daniela Demesa, Enoc Leaño, and Daniel Valtierra. It is set to November 21st before being streamed on Netflix on December 14th.
