In 2014, the little film Nightcrawler, which focused on a stringer who records violent events late at night in Los Angeles and sells the footage to a local television news station, ended up becoming a huge hit with critics and audiences alike. It even ended up earning a Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards for it’s writer/director Dan Gilroy while establishing a powerful collaboration team with the lead star of that film, Jake Gyllenhaal.
5 years later, Gilroy is reteaming with Gyllenhaal, along with Gilroy’s wife Rene Russo who was also in Nightcrawler, for his newest film. This time, they will cover a different kind of obsessuib…art. And even moreso, to diversify from Nightcrawler, their new film Velvet Buzzsaw will utilize elements of the supernatural with a murder-mystery hint. I’d give you a synopsis but the official trailer released for the film says it all. Check it out below:
Velvet Buzzsaw co-stars Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, Billy Magnussen, and John Malkovich. It is set to premiere on Netflix and simultaneously have a limited theatrical run on February 1st.
