Director Ava DuVernay didn’t have much luck when she took a shot at big budget blockbusters with A Wrinkle in Time. Makes sense she would return to the smaller, more intimate tales that first brought her to prominence. In this case, the four-part Netflix miniseries When They See Us. Based on true events, the synopsis is as follows:
Based on a true story that gripped the country, the limited series will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.
DuVernay not only was a writer on the miniseries but also directed every episode so this is a personal project for her without a doubt. And that passion is displayed in the official trailer released today for the miniseries. Check it out below:
