With the Fall season starting up at the movies, we’re bound to get exposed to more award-friendly films. One such example is Portrait of a Lady on Fire, written and directed by Céline Sciamma. Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, it won the Queer Palm, becoming the first film directed by a woman to win the award. The synopsis is as follows:
At the end of the eighteenth century Marianne (Played by Noémie Merlant), a young painter, is commissioned to paint a portrait of a young woman to be used to elicit marriage proposals. Knowing that the woman, Héloïse (Played by Adèle Haenel), has previously refused to sit for portraits as she does not want to be married, Marianne disguises herself as a lady’s maid in order to gain her subject’s trust only to find herself inadvertently falling in love with her.
Today, the official trailer for the film has been released. Check it out below:
Portrait of a Lady on Fire is set to have a limited release in the US on December 6th.
