Say what you want about Sylvester Stallone, but the man continues to bring audiences in even as he recently turned 73. And it shows with Rambo: Last Blood set to have the best opening of any of the Rambo films when it hits theaters September 20th.
According to early box office tracking numbers, the film is set to have a domestic opening of $21-24 million, well above every installment previously whether it’s 1982’s First Blood ($6.8M), 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II ($20.1M), 1988’s Rambo III ($13M), and 2008’s Rambo ($18.2M). This is despite the fact the film is opening up against Brad Pitt-led sci-fi epic Ad Astra (Set for a $17.5-19 million start) and the Downton Abbey film (Set for a $15-16 million opening).
It helps that the film might possibly serve as the definitive end to the character’s story or the fact it recently got an R-rating as was hoped by audiences (See what the rating entails here). In any case, if this is the end, John Rambo will be leaving the stage with gusto.
Rambo: Last Blood co-stars Adriana Barraza, Paz Vega, Yvette Monreal, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Oscar Jaenada, and Joaquín Cosío. It is directed by Adrian Grunberg.
