While the future of the DC films are up in the air, the TV side of the “Worlds of DC” is continuing to expand. Following Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning, there has been talk of a Batwoman TV series for some time that is now coming to fruition.
First, the character will appear in the annual crossover of all the above CW shows that will air in December with Batwoman to be part of the pilot for a planned solo TV series set in that universe which producer Greg Berlanti is currently developing. That pilot is being penned by Caroline Dries who will also executive produce alongside Berlanti, Geoff Johns, and Sarah Schechter.
In the comics, the woman behind the mask of Batwoman is Kate Kane, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence and must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope. The description explains why it was announced today that Ruby Rose, known for her role in John Wick: Chapter 2 and this weekend’s The Meg, will play the character. If one were to research Rose’s life story, you’ll see she has a lot in common with the character.
Hopefully, Batwoman will offer some of the grit that fans have loved about other Batman-related shows and movies. Course, it is the CW, so we’ll see. Stay tuned!
