So Scarlett Johansson is going to be in a film titled Rub & Tug…I’m going to assume she didn’t have a say in that title. Still, the title has some significance to the story.
The film, taking place in 1970’s Pittburgh, will be based on the true story of Jean Marie Gill, a former blacksmith who adopted a male identity, cross-dressing at times, to brazenly take on the mob and build an empire of illicit massage parlors, prostitution, and an anabolic steroids ring which fuelled the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL dynasty. She also used her allies in the gay community to help grow her power base and had a fiery romance with her girlfriend Cynthia. Gill was ultimately arrested in 1984 for income tax fraud.
The film already has everything set up at New Regency with a $30 million budget and Johansson will be reteaming with her Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sander, working off a script written by Gary Spinelli. Johansson, Spinelli, Joel Silver, Tobey Maguire, Matthew Plouffe, and Jonathan Lia. Filming is expected to happen early next year after Johansson finishes filming director Taika Waititi’s JoJo Rabbit. Obviously…all parties involved want to be noticed during the award season next year. And if a half-decent film is made…they’ll probably be very noticed with that story. Stay tuned!
