It’s not a new thing to see a TV show adaptation of a film. But usually the film is a hit or at least widely recognized. Snowpiercer, based on the 2014 film of the same name, was one I never expected. Not that the film wasn’t great. From this writer’s perspective, it’s a gorgeous and thrilling treat for fans of classic dystopian cinema. But between the film’s noted poor marketing and promotion it was given under the Weinstein Company banner, it’s surprising how much a TV show was pushed for the show. In fact, before it’s completed version that will premiere on TBS in Spring of 2020, the film was in development for three years over at TNT starting in 2015, barely a year after the film had come out (Internationally in 2014, the film had seen a limited release in 2013).
But here it is, a reboot of the film’s continuity, working to cover the same themes of social classes, warfare, and survival that the film did so brilliantly. Today, we finally get a trailer for that series, following the cast and crew promoting the film at this year’s Comic-Con earlier today. Check it out below:
