Hugh Jackman has done just fine outside of X-Men, although his most noted films lately have been musicals like 2012’s Les Misérables and 2017’s The Greatest Showman. However, back in the 2000’s Jackman was stretching his talents to a lot of different stories, especially in 2006 when he did the magician film The Prestige and the epic fantasy The Fountain. Now, Jackman will test his skills in the dark comedy genre, working under Jason Reitman for the biopic The Front Runner.
The film will chronicle the rise of American Senator Gary Hart (Played by Jackman), a Democratic presidential candidate who in 1988 fell from grace when media reports surfaced of his extramarital affair. The story will be based off the 2014 book All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid. That book was written by author Matt Bai who actually co-write the film’s script with Reitman and Jay Carson.
With a release date of November 7th, the film is no doubt priming itself for the award season and the trailer today represents just how much Jackman is ready to stretch his talents to the next level. Check it out below:
The Front Runner co-stars Vera Farmiga, J. K. Simmons, and Alfred Molina.
