In the last few years, probably some of the strangest horror films have come to hit theaters. We’ve had stories about ghosts transmitted through sex, aliens attracted to sound, a supernatural creature that makes you want to kill yourself when you look at it, and all those are somehow stumped by The Hole in the Ground. Mixing a sinkhole with the supernatural, the film hasn’t even made it’s debut at this year’s Sundance yet A24 has already picked it up and set it for a release date of March 1st, displaying an insane amount of confidence in the film. The synopsis is as follows:
Trying to escape her broken past, Sarah O’Neill (Played by Seána Kerslake) is building a new life on the fringes of a backwood rural town with her young son Chris. A terrifying encounter with a mysterious neighbor shatters her fragile security, throwing Sarah into a spiraling nightmare of paranoia and mistrust, as she tries to uncover if the disturbing changes in her little boy are connected to an ominous sinkhole buried deep in the forest that borders their home.
The Hole in the Ground is directed by Lee Cronin (Who co-wrote the film with Stephen Shields). Check out the exclusive UK trailer for the film below:
