I might take Kristen Stewart back as the lead. Initially I was rooting for this film but it seems half-done in several regards. Chris Hemsworth isn’t even trying to hide his Thor persona in this one with a rather strange accent to compensate. It took this very long synopsis to see the film is a prequel/sequel to 2012’s “Snow White and the Huntsman”:
Long before the Evil Queen Ravenna (Played by Charlize Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister Freya (Played by Emily Blunt), the Ice Queen, suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom.
With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young Ice Queen has spent years in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly Huntsmen, including Eric (Played by Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Played by Jessica Chastain), only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: forever harden your hearts to love.
When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she resurrects Ravenna from the Mirror’s golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkness it’s ever seen.
Now, their amassing army shall prove unbeatable unless the banished Huntsmen who broke their Queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.
The fact Jessica Chastain, a spectacular actress I still think got cheated in 2012 for her work in “Zero Dark Thirty”, is in it throws me. Then again, she’s had incredible tastes in film choices lately. Either this trailer doesn’t do the film justice or she’s going to have her one freebie mess-up. Either way, look forward to what’s look like A LOT of CGI. I mean as in having Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron seems pointless or even Emily Blunt. Wouldn’t that be nice though? It’s not often nowadays because of the desire to promote with the best material in a film, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a trailer look mediocre and the film ends up surprising you. That would be the real magic here. As far as this new trailer shows though, it’s sub-par at best:
“The Huntsman: Winter’s War” co-stars Nick Frost, Sam Claflin, and Rob Brydon. It is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and is set to hit theaters April 22, 2016.
