Scott Z. Burns has written his fair share of films inspired by real events or working to be based in real information. His most noted films are a pair of films under the direction of eclectic director Steven Soderbergh; 2009’s real events-based The Informant! and 2011’s Contagion, which was inspired by various contemporary pandemics. Now, along with taking on writing duties, Burns takes the helm in his directorial debut The Report, funded by Amazon Studios.
Based on the events following 9/11, the film will follow the true story of Daniel J. Jones (Played by Adam Driver) as he and the Senate Intelligence Committee investigated the CIA’s use of torture following the September 11 attacks. It’s an ambitious tale that will cover more than a decade’s worth of real-life political intrigue, using the perspective of Jones, who ultimately wrote a 6,700-page report on his findings, and weaving the events into a compelling narrative.
Today, the second official trailer for the film has been released. Check it out below:
The Report co-stars Annette Bening, Ted Levine, Michael C. Hall, Tim Blake Nelson, Corey Stoll, Maura Tierney, and Jon Hamm. It is set to be theatrically released on November 15, 2019, by Amazon Studios, before streaming on Amazon Prime beginning November 29th.
