The Secret Life of Pets 2 Debuts Teaser “The Max Trailer”

I admit I had a soft spot for the 2016 film The Secret Life of Pets. It was an endearing film that mixed the ideas of Toy Story and Oliver & Company. The hidden day-to-day activities of household pets when everyone is out, leading to a sprawling adventure through New York City. Plus…the first film grossed $875.5 million on a mere $75 million budget…so plenty of incentive to see a sequel happen which of course it is, simply titled The Secret Life of Pets 2. And just like the first film, which was released June 16th in 2016, the sequel is set for a premier summer release date of June 7, 2019.

Most of the creative staff is returning, including director Chris Renaud and screenwriter Brian Lynch who is taking over sole script duties after co-writing the first film with Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. In terms of the voice cast, everyone is returning except Louis C.K. who voiced the lead role of Max in the first film. However, due to confessed acts of sexual misconduct, Patton Oswalt will be taking over voice work for the character.

With the year coming to an end and a tentpole summer film usually getting 6-8 months of marketing, the teaser trailer for the sequel, referred to as “The Max Trailer”, has been released today. No doubt the focus on the lead first is to also acquaint audiences with Max’s new voice so they can get used to him not sounding like Louis C.K. Check it out below:
