Well there is one thing we can always say “Planet of the Apes” did wrong. Great movies…very bad titles. For some reason, we needed extraneously long titles to know something about a movie nowadays. Instead of planning it out better or just being well-informed as an audience, we need to know that the third “Planet of the Apes” movie, or rather the conclusion of a prequel trilogy that leads into the original 1968 film that itself was followed by 4 sequels, is coming.
As such the self-proclaimed threequel has had it’s logo revealed by director Matt Reeves, who directed the previous film “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”. He also says, in a Twitter post, to tune in for this Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” for a special announcement about the film. Could it be the titles will be suffixed for us? Here is the logo:
I know…it’s so vastly different from the previous two film logos right?
All the joking aside, I have really enjoyed these prequel films that have been well-crafted since “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” jump-started the long forgotten series in a new, modern context in 2011. And this one seeks to close the loop between the prequel series and original 1968 film that Charlton Heston first starred in so many years ago.
From the two photos above you can see a clear parallel in imagery. So all this silliness aside I will tune in for “The Walking Dead” to see what Reeves has next in store the series.
Along with Andy Serkis and Judy Greer returning to reprise their motion capture, ape roles of Caesar and Cornelia, the new cast list includes Woody Harrelson and Gabriel Chavarria as new human characters while Steve Zahn will play a new ape character.
“War of the Planet of the Apes” is set for release in theaters July 14, 2017.
