“Zoolander 2” Trailer #1 Debuts

“Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”…this was a 2013 sequel to the original 2003 cult comedy. It was…okay. That seems to be a trend lately. “Let’s make a sequel to a decade-old hit and see where it takes us”. The downside is is that a great movie, or series, is not just made by saying “Let’s do it.” The reason those movies succeed is everything in that moment was perfect for it.

The cast was in the right state of performing, the directors were on their game, the screenwriters knew exactly what goes next because they had been writing the story over and over again in their heads. And even worse, no matter how good the sequel might be, fans expectations crush it because the first one has been risen to such popularity and pop culture. This no doubt lent to “Dumb and Dumber To” not even coming close in like or intrigue as the first one that came out 20 years ago. This was why 2010’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” was considered barely passable even with Michael Douglas returning as Gordon Gekko after 23 years (And Charlie Sheen having a small cameo).

THIS, right here, shouldn’t have happened…EVER!!!

All this and yet, a sequel to 2001’s “Zoolander” has been greenlit, the trailer here for you to see for yourself. Like most long-awaited comedies, the trailer seems to show a reuse of several popular gags from the first one. Even Will Ferrell seems to be returning as Jacobim Mugatu (I’ll admit his scene gave me a couple laughs) who is AGAIN the villain of the story or part of the plot.

Well…can’t say Ferrell isn’t pumped for the sequel.

Like Blue Steel and Magnum, nothing in particular seems to separate this one from the first film with a reliance on physical comedy (Owen Wilson throwing stuff at Stiller’s face was the only thing I kind of enjoyed).

But hey maybe Stiller’s “Zoolander 2” is more than this shows and the trailer could have been made just to satisfy the masses that keep franchises in business (I’m looking at you “Transformers” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”!). We’ll find out February 12, 2016 although it will have a touch time going up against Fox’s long-awaited “Deadpool” movie that’s gotten cult love already just from the trailer.

Deadpool: “Ah. The sweet smell of victory!”

“Zoolander 2” stars Stiller, Owen Wilson,Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell. Check out the trailer below and enjoy, if anything, Justin Bieber getting shot in the opening scenes. That…probably will be the best part of the movie. Anyway, here it is:

This might be the most relevant commentary of the movie about modern society. So…you know bravo Cumberbatch…or Cher. Whoever the heck you are.
